Sydney, Australia (10 May 2016) - Sydney based designer Annie Cannon-Brookes of Playdate Studios will showcase her Resort 2017 Collection, entitled Daydreaming Detroit, at MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION FESTIVAL SYDNEY.

This season, Playdate Studios takes a drive to the Motor City of Detroit. Inspired by the rebirth of a city crushed by the US automobile industry moving offshore, Daydreaming Detroit highlights the city’s fascinating boom to bust history and rebirth–played out on race-worthy silhouettes and sporty everyday staples through the use of bold colours, unexpected combinations and vivid, digitally-printed fabrics.

Featuring collaborations with two extraordinary artists–David T Waller of the United Kingdom and Wiktor Franco of Poland–Playdate Studios shapes their striking imagery into quirky prints, creating truly wearable art.

Multi-way pieces are alive with colour as rows of miniature cars depict the city’s vibrancy, whilst a desaturated greyscale palette alludes to the “post-apocalyptic” scene that was to follow. Delicate dandelions floating across billowy maxi dresses hold the promise of a city rebuilding.

Daydreaming Detroit will also mark the debut of Playdate Studios' first capsule Menswear collection, featuring jackets, shirt and shorts in Playdate Studios’ signature digital prints.

As the talent behind Playdate Studios’ unmistakable silhouettes, bold colours and graphic prints, Daydreaming Detroit is Annie Cannon-Brooks’ debut solo show at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia, following her showcase in the 2015 Gen Art: Fresh Faces in Fashion show at New York Fashion Week.
