Talents from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia

Three talented brands chosen by Vicky Sofield

House of Cannon was honoured to be chosen as a talent from MBFWA by Vogue Italia.

After a full week of established designer collections showcasing on the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA) 2016, fashion industry purveyors were ready to become immersed in and captivated by Australia’s emerging talent on the final few days.

From House of Cannon to Jessica Van and Kakopieros – these were the top three fashion designers, innovators and ones to watch from Australia’s recent fashion week.

...

House of Cannon – who independently showcased to an overflowing guest list of the fresh sports-luxe label’s devotees, equally wowed us all with their show stopping solo runway debut of their Resort 2017 collection named ‘Daydreaming Detroit’.

Australian designer at the helm of the label, Annie Cannon-Brooks was inspired by the rebirth of a city crushed by the American automobile industry moving offshore and she conveyed that message throughout with a vibrant display of garments that took us on a journey from a thriving economy to a post-apocalyptic decline, then back to a promise of flourishing nature-inspired prints in varying shades and tones.

Over sixty pieces featuring cool, calm and relaxed silhouettes were paired back with an assortment of sneakers – gifting each look with that extra It-Girl edge…  Interestingly also gifting us with a plethora of unique digital ‘car driver’ prints that were printed onto easy flowing maxi dresses and shift dresses alike; along with a cool miniature car motif in vibrant colours (as well as a grey scale palette of garments with cars printed onto unmistakable separates depicting the post-apocalyptic era), bold green landscapes, a memorable dandelion print and also included in the collection was her first ever menswear capsule; which came together seamlessly.

Annie, who also collaborated with artists, David T Waller (of the United Kingdom) and Wiktor Frano (of Poland), spoke of her inspiration for the collection, stating, “The Motor City’s fascinating boom-to-bust history and later rebirth plays out through bold colours, unexpected combinations and vivid imagery.  By collaborating with both artists [David and Wiktor], House of Cannon shapes their striking imagery onto beautiful digitally-printed fabrics, to create truly wearable-art.”

And I have no doubt that the vivid garments of this energetic yet meaningful collection will be worn as wearable-art!
